All of the December holidays are basically fake. I mean, the only reason we celebrate Christmas then is because Saturnalia was so darn popular.

Is there a "genuine holiday"? They're all pretty fake if you ask me. Manitoba's newest holiday, Louis Riel Day, was created either to break up the monotonous period between New Year's and Easter without a holiday, and/or to bring it in line with some other provinces who have a holiday (equally fake) on the third Monday in February, which were simply created to sync up with the calendar of their largest trading partner, the USA.

Of course, the bigger issue is, why should anyone care if a holiday is "fake" or not? If people want to celebrate it, let them celebrate it. You never hear anyone angrily denouncing, say, Talk Like a Pirate Day in the same tone or degree as Kwanzaa. This, in my opinion, is because the people complaining that Kwanzaa is "fake" aren't being honest about what they dislike about it.
