*** SPOILERS FOR "THE HAPPENING" BELOW THIS LINE ***
So, as you know if you've seen the movie, people suddenly start killing themselves for no apparent reason, shooting themselves, stabbing themselves, jumping off buildings, one guy goes into the lion pen at the zoo and lets lions tear his arms off and then maul him, etc. And it turns out what's causing it is that plants have started selectively releasing neurotoxins that make people go into a trance and do these things to themselves.
And various negative reviews of the movie call this concept "absurd" and "moronic". Oh really, guys? It hardly seems any more farfetched than, say, vampires or zombies. And some reviewers were criticizing the fact that even though they've figured out it's plants doing it, they start running across grassy fields. Well, they kinda have to, since none of the roads they're on lead the way they need to go and they're otherwise completely surrounded by fields.
The movie disturbed me with its scariness and grimness. The public disturbs me with its lack of imagination.
