10:16 pm - The fat cat sat on a hat oh YEAH!

Last night, Babs, Squirrelly and I were watching some of our favorite old classic Sesame Street clips on YouTube. Here's one of them: "Fat Cat Sat Hat".

This song is kinda like "Mahna Mahna" with real words!

I think that's even the same puppet they used for Manah Manah (or at least some version of the same character).

A version, yeah. They changed the eyes.

That's Bip Bippadotta, who had different eyes in "Mahna Mahna" as Cerulean points out.

What's even weirder, though, is the original version of the character, as seen in the original version of "Mahna Mahna". He looked creepy there!

It didn't help that he wore black and white stripes. Ladies, you're singing with a fugitive!

Man, they were counting on kids back then to have long attention spans.

Before I saw the Muppet Show clip of "Mahna Mahna," my entire family assumed from an audio recording that the singer was Rowlf. That was one arguable weakness of the original Muppeteers: little voice variation. (I still think the Muppets haven't been half as good since Jim Henson died.)

I still can't tell the difference between Ernie and Kermit by voice.

Or Bert and Fozzie, no?

It's all in the attitude. Kermit goes "YAAAY" while Ernie goes "KH-H-H-H". Kermit exasperatedly exclaims "PIGGY!..." while Ernie calls out, "Bert! Oh, Bert! Ol' buddy Bert!"

Similar things with Bert ("Uh, Ernie...") and Fozzie ("Hiya-hiya-hiyaaaa!")

I thought of "Fat Cat Sat Hat" when I saw this PhotoShop contest:
