Does that mean we'll suffocate in ornj paint, or will we have to run from a giant rolling ornj a la Indiana Ornjones?

I usually put a slight schwa where the 'a' is.

I'd say it's still pretty common to for it to at least somewhat resemble a two-syllable word, "orenj". Though less so for the plural, which is almost always "ornjez".

Reminds me of a joke I heard comedian Christopher Titus say, reflecting on how his daughter was born just a few days before the September 11 terrorist attacks and how that's affecting her growing up:

"She's learning her colours from the 'terrorist rainbow'. She thinks Winnie the Pooh is a medium threat."

Of course she is! Winnie the Pooh is a ferriner! Born in northern Ontario! Named after Winnipeg! Spent the majority of her life in a London zoo! And no one could account for Winnie's whereabouts on the day of the attacks ... suspicious!

That's pretty much standard Midland pronunciation - I slur vowels like that too, and say "ornj".

Makes it hard on one of my clients - her name is Brittany, and I do *not* want to insult her by slurring her name (just slur out the "a"...)
