Previous Entry Share Next Entry

When I read today's Get Fuzzy, I knew I had to make an LJ usericon out of two of its panels.

Tough love vs. sadistic apathy

This icon is dedicated to, and free to be copied for use by, anyone who's ever been harassed by some troll who then claimed "tough love" as an excuse for being rude and nasty.

Whew, for a fleeting moment, I thought you were going to razz "Get Fuzzy." The Comics Curmudgeon can get you to be mean to good comics if you're not careful.

Actually, I have been getting tired of the way most Get Fuzzy strips go these days, with Bucky being a total jerk and Rob reacting with little more than an eyeroll and otherwise doing nothing about it.

Admittedly, the strip has gotten into a bit of a run in that way. It's at its best when Bucky gets called on his jerkitude, or shows some redeeming qualities.

Anyway, you're wrong. The Comics Curmudgeon has made me keenly aware of the differences between good comics and bad comics.

Eh, sometimes I don't share their feelings about a comic at all. The CC was getting in the way of my enjoyment of "Speed Bump," which is my favorite post-"Far Side" random single-framer. I also don't understand the animosity toward "One Big Happy."

See, what you're seeing as animosity is actually a sort of perverse appreciation. The CC's favorite way to enjoy One Big Happy is to imagine that Ruthie is completely insane, which is easy given some of the wacky stuff she says. Remember the strip where she says, "I know where Mom hides the good scissors"? Because of that strip, the CC now offers a T-shirt showing Ruthie dramatically silhouetted in a doorway, holding up a pair of sharp scissors Psycho-style.

Basically, the CC has a hilariously twisted way of having fun with the comics. :}

It really varies. That scissors example isn't exactly harsh on OBH or its cartoonist. Not all Curmudgeonistas are as funny as Josh, either, and I can do without the ones who just go, "Argh, die, Ruthie!"

I might come back just to look at Josh's entries rather than the replies. I'll lose a lot less time that way.
