It is said that if you give an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of spoons and bowls of alphabet soup, they will eventually eat all the works of Shakespeare.

Science!

I disagree. The second law of thermodynamics leads to the conclusion that it would be impossible to have an infinite number of monkeys, spoons and soups, but it says nothing about whether, if it were possible, they would eat the complete works of Shakespeare.

All I can think of is the old Sesame Street song... "That's about the size, where you put your eyes, that's about the size of it..."

I'd think if you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of spoons with an infinite number of bowls of alphabet soup...You'd eventually end up with an infinite number of fat monkeys with an addiction to preprocessed canned meals.

Not necessarily. Monkeys burn a lot of calories, after all. But I would not want to be in that infinitely large room after they've been there for a while.

Yes, it would be an obesity crisis, and the press would report on it under the headline "Crisis on Infinite Monkeys".

Reminds me of a hilarious Bloom County strip (weren't they all?) from, per the date on it, Jan. 30, 1994. Was basically likening the information highway to a real highway. Oliver Jones "made an illegal left turn - into the white house internal memo network", Milo yells, as he's carted away by the cyber-fuzz for "DWI, driving while ignorant", "I got a little lost! I didn't read the manual! But I'm fine! I can drive!". The panel in question involved Opus trying to pull on with his Smith-Corona. He was charged with "DWC, driving without a clue". (Bill the cat was, of course, "roadkill")

I remember that one. Actually, it was "Outland." "Bloom County" departed in 1989.

Hmm, could a single monkey consume enough soup in one monkey lifetime to eat the collected works of Shakespeare? If I remember correctly, a can of vegetable soup only contains about 30 letters. Even at 6 cans a day for 25 years, I don't think it'll be enough. And the monkey will probably be quite sick of soup by then.

Does the recipe for The Merchant of Venice include a pound of flesh? Then what happens if your monkeys are vegetarians? What about A Midsummer Night's Dream -- do you really want someone's Bottom in your soup?
