It occurs to me that if I'm going to recommend Avenue Q to my friends, I ought to let you know when and where it will be playing. The show is currently on a tour of North America, and here's a list of dates and cities it will be playing in:

How can a touring company skip Chicago?! We have a substantial and thriving off-Broadway theatre district; I work at the west end of it.

I guess they're trying to put together a Chicago company. It could run for years here, actually, look at Joseph.

Maybe it already played Chicago. That list doesn't have any old dates on it.

And of course I would have put up a link to this a lot sooner, but I hadn't seen the show yet and didn't know how much I would love it.

BTW, you're only the second person I know of who had a crush on a puppet. The first was my fifth grade math teacher, who had the hots for Miss Piggy.

Who doesn't have the hots for Miss Piggy? Also, Mokey Fraggle has a certain je ne sais quois.

Ah, you liked Mokey too? Same here. I was also quite fond of Steve Plunkett's Gracie Squirrel for a while.

Anyone know what the technical term is for someone with a crush on a puppet, besides "strange person"? :)

The trick is to find out what the word for fear of it is: pupaphobia. So "pupaphile" would be the way to go.

That sounds like someone who loves cocoons or chrysalises. Do you mind if I say "puppetophile" instead? It's much clearer, and still close.

Thanks much! Since you posted about the touring production I've been meaning to track this down, but I probably would have forgotten and missed it.

I saw it in NYC last Christmas, but everybody else I know pretty much needs to go too.

Yes, but it's playing at the Paramount here. My sweetie would rather be eaten alive my a swarm of beetles than go to another show in that theatre. :P I hate it only slightly less than he does. :P

What's wrong with the Paramount, out of curiosity?
