12:07 am - Question about songs

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I know everyone and his cousin Frank has heard "The Internet is for Porn", but I'm curious; how well-known are the other songs from Avenue Q, among people who haven't seen the show?

I'd like to have heard the songs sung from a stage for the first time, but my son bought the album and played it in the car while I was driving...

...over my complaints...

...and enjoyed it.

Very nice musical though.

Only other one I know is "If You Were Gay." Which I found very amusing.

I get 'It sucks to be me' stuck in my head while I'm at work.
But then, I've seen the show, and listened to the soundtrack for about 4 months straight.

And I very much agree with Kate about the internet.

It's playing in my town now, but I'm way shy on free time and money.
However, the album's been in my Ipod for months. I probably know the songs by heart.
Even the ones that lack pornage!

I hope the play is made into a movie someday, so everyone could see it!

I'm a fan of:
"What do you do with a B.A. in English"
"Everyone is a little bit racist"
and of course,
"There is life outside your apartment"

I'm a bit annoyed because the soundtrack album doesn't include the brief reprise of "It Sucks to be Me" that Princeton sings at the beginning of Act II (after Kate has broken up with him):

It sucks to be me
It sucks to be me
It sucks to be single, unemployed, and almost...
(God, I'm old!)
...twenty-three!

They could easily have stuck it at the beginning of "There is Life Outside Your Apartment", dangit. Still, that's a minor quibble.

I haven't heard any of the other songs. Then again, the only radio exposure I get is from the guy I carpool with, and he only likes music with audacious guitar playing.

Okay, then nevermind. ^_^; I just remember them playing it on Dragon*Con TV... it had a little businessman puppet on a subway train or something.

I hadn't even heard "The Internet is for Porn" at all! (Well, I heard the expression, but hadn't heard of the song). Nor had I heard of Avenue Q until you started talking about it. I guess Winnipeg ain't high class enough to get good plays like that. (Of course the fact that Keanu Reeves came here sometime in the mid-1990s to play Hamlet at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, and some Winnipeggers still tout this as a big achievement for the city, probably answers that question already.)

We bought the soundtrack, but won't get to see it until May... so I know and like a lot of the songs.

My roommate last year used to sing bits of "If You Were Gay" all the time, and played it at least once. And I'm pretty sure he played "You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want To" one time. I have him to thank for being introduced to the musical, and actually that was the first time I ever heard "The Internet Is for Porn" too.

And then I ended up finding phonecordings of some of the scenes on YouTube, so I watched "It Sucks to Be Me." But that doesn't really count.

I would like to add, btw, that he does a pretty decent Trekkie Monster voice.
