First I went to see the Simpsons Movie. It was pretty good, despite the fact I haven't watched the show itself in years. Glad they didn't make Lisa a stupid caricature (which was one of the reasons I stopped watching). The part where Homer watches the videotape Marge left made me tear up. But damn, wouldn't Homer have had to be going impossibly fast on that motorcycle to achieve what he did in the climactic scene?

Trailers:
"Alvin & the Chipmunks". When the one gag featured in the trailer involves eating poop, you know the movie's going to stink. It saddens me that everybody else in the audience laughed at it. Granted, it was a pretty small audience today, but STILL.
"Daddy Day Camp". Gettin' tired of this trailer.
"Horton Hears a Who". Why did they get Jim Carrey to voice Horton? Why must Horton be "hip" and "wacky"?
"Fred Claus". Santa (Paul Giamatti)'s troublemaking big brother (Vince Vaughn) visits the North Pole. Could be good, could be bad. Hard to say.

Then I went to Kroger and bought some necessary groceries... and an appliance lightbulb! Our freezer is bright and friendly once again! And yup it's 40W.

*Just* got back from seeing it. Pretty good! Far better than the Simpsons of the slump years that made me stop watching the show.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that Horton stars both Bruce and Evan Almighty?

And remember, they specifically picked that part of Alvin for the trailer because they must have thought it was the best part of the movie. Either that or else what he was eating was representative of the movie itself (the prevailing theory).

I tell you if I have to sit through the trailer for "The Game Plan." with Dwayne "the Rock." Johnson one more time.. I will kill the closest person to be that looks like they may remotely support this crap. :)

I haven't seen that one, and I will endeavor to avoid it after such a sterling report on its quality.

If those are all the previews you saw -- for a movie that doesn't even cater to kids that much -- then I think I'll wait for the DVD.

I never read the book, but

I loooooved "Horton Hears a Who" movie growing up. I have not seen this trailer. He's hip and wacky? Wasn't he more like kind and awkward?

It's been many years since I saw it, but we had it on tape and I remember watching it many times. The little kid at the end who goes "Yap!" and those scary evil blue guys... boil that dust speck!

Hmm, I just went and found the trailer and it didn't look too horrible actually. Horton's personality doesn't seem as likable to me, but I guess he probably doesn't act that way throughout the whole movie.

Yeah, maybe the whole movie won't be as bad, and Jim Carrey can do real acting (best example: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), but the impression I got from the trailer makes me imagine some stand-up comedian saying "What if they made a movie of 'Horton Hears a Who', and for the voice of Horton, they got... Jim Carrey? I think it might go something like... this!"

Yeah, sometimes being in an audience for the trailers will really test your faith in mankind. And sometimes the opposite happens -- I was in a theater once when the trailer for The Jungle Book 2 came on, which was at the time Disney's latest unnecessary direct-to-video sequal, and the audience booed it!
