Ooo, LJ's festived up their logo banner for Christmas! (Whether you can see it apparently depends on your layout; when I logged in just now, I stopped seeing it.)

But WUH-OH, it says "Season's Greetings"! There's that mean nasty ol' war on Christmas again, how dare they! Someone alert Bill O'Reilly! And by "alert" I mean "punch in the face".

That wasn't very Christmassy of me. I think I'll finish this post by wishing everyone a...

JOYOUS YULE!

Strange, when I clicked on your message to reply, I could see the new "Season's Greetings" title, but in your LJ itself, I couldn't. Guess it depends where you are.

I like the banner, it reminds me of my childhood up north (and before any of you Americans get on my case, up north is REALLY up north, Winnipeg's downright the tropics compared to where I grew up), the northern lights, and indeed the very picture in the banner itself, was a common occurrance this time of year. It takes your breath away and has to be seen to be appreciated.

I have noticed, in an attempt to be "inclusive", that many people use winter scenes - completely forgetting the 50 million or so (extremely rough estimate) that live in the southern hemisphere and have the heat of summer during the latter part of December.

The banner seems to be so inclusive (no winter scenes, or anything that's exclusively associated with any winter solstice holiday, except the wreath) that it doesn't have anything to do with the holidays!

How dare you neglect to mention Kwanzaa!

For penance, go out and knit me a scarf made of wheat.

How dare you neglect to mention the fact that I neglected to mention Hanukkah!

For penance, here's one night's worth of oil. Keep it burning for eight nights!

How dare you neglect to mention the fact that both of you neglected to mention New Years!

For penance, you get......um......a dirty diaper to wear on New Years Eve?

I always liked the succinct Swedish "God Jul."
