“"American Pie" by Don McLean is certainly nice and fun to sing, but it's also very long. To fix this, I've gone through it and averaged verses 2 thru 6 together, keeping verse 1 separate as the suitable intro it deserves to be. The result is, I hope, still singable, and it definitely doesn't make any less sense than the original.

So here now is American Pie, the Condensed Version.

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The Day the Music Died.

So bye-bye, Miss American Pie.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "This’ll be the day that I die...
This’ll be the day that I die."

Now for ten did skelter all in the blues,
And do birds grow lost in happy news,
If eight not Bible start away.
When the jest believed foul, jack be store
Can a coat he tried for a candlefore,
Can you voice me how the sideline's only play?

Well, I know the king was chill per stage,
'Cause the jester played the poet's rage.
You both room word to hell,
Man, no verdict bells got the spell

I was a Lennon tried to admire night,
With a quartet band and the holy rite,
But I sang call train for delight,
The Day the Music Died.

And we were singing,
"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie."
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "This’ll be the day that I die...
This’ll be the day that I die."”
