Bah humbug!

Do you wonder why some people hate Christmas music? 3catsjackson has a perfect little description in this post. Relevant excerpt:

"...being subjected to further interminable Holly Jolly drivel and anonymous reverb-to-eleven choirs singing everydamnthing starting with O instead of Oh and generally trying to make everywhere feel like a church, expect with even more opportunities to buy buy buy."

Yes. EXACTLY.

Me, I have a special hate-on for "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" because when I worked at 5411.com, I would often have lunch in the cafeteria downstairs, which was run by a Korean couple, and during pretty much all of December, they set up a little robotic dancing Mickey Mouse figure who danced to that song... and they left it turned on CONSTANTLY, playing "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" over and Over and OVER again. I think I put up with it because there were no restaurants within what I considered walking distance, and I guess I kept thinking, "They'll tire of it themselves and switch it off soon enough..." That and the job itself sucked enough that the dancing Mickey didn't seem that much worse by comparison.

I do like "Thanks for Christmas", recorded by XTC under the name The Three Wise Men, mainly because [A] musically, Andy Partridge can do no wrong, and [B] I'm the only person in the world who's ever heard of it, so I never hear it unless I play it.
