Big Science

And in back of the edge of hearing...

My dad has apparently caught the flu (which I hope I don't catch). He's got a fever. Mom bought an electronic thermometer for him to monitor his fever with.

Problem is, neither he nor Mom can hear it beep when it's done. I listened to it, and I can hear it beep... just barely. It's an extremely high-pitched electronic beep, and it doesn't seem to be very loud. But my mom and dad are older than I am (shocking, I know!) and they just absolutely cannot hear the little chime at all. If it were any higher frequency, I might not be able to hear it.

Why don't they make those things with a lower-pitched beep?!
