Here is the text of a letter I sent to the Houston Chronicle today...

Dear Chronicle Editors:

In response to "The British have invaded the Fourth in Houston", by L. Millard Parsons, July 3:

What difference does it make if Houston's fireworks display this year is being sponsored by British Petroleum? Yes, I see the irony, but it hardly seems worth refusing a perfectly good business deal over. Anyway, the world is a global marketplace these days.

I was not aware Independence Day was also Let's Pretend We Still Hate the British Day. I guess Parsons' English vocabulary doesn't include the phrases "let bygones be bygones" or "no hard feelings".
