World Trade Center - The online computery journal thingy of a turtle

03:59 pm - World Trade Center

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Today is September 11. Instead of burning a Quran, or indeed any religious text, or indeed any book, or indeed anything at all (except my toast; d'oh!), I decided to create something.

Lego WTC (front)
Here's a Lego model, that I designed and built, of the World Trade Center towers. Note the telecommunications antenna on the top of the North Tower, and the fountain in the plaza. (You can't see the sculpture in the middle of the fountain, because at this scale it would be the size of a grain of sand.)

Lego WTC (back)
On the other side, you can see the Marriott World Trade Center nestled between the bases of the two towers. The diagonal part of the building is attached to the base by a single stud at the outer end.

Most constructive 9/11 related thing I've seen yet.

This world would be a far better place IMHO if lots of people made Lego sculptures to commemorate history.

Upset over Pearl Harbor? Build a Lego sculpture of the battleship Arizona Memorial.

Upset over the Iranian Hostage Crisis (aside: I know one of the Marine guards who was held.)? Build a Lego sculpture of the Tehran Embassy.

Upset over the killing of Hussein by Yazid I? Build a Lego sculpture of the Imam Hussein Mosque in Karbala.

Lather, rinse, rebuild the Lego sculpture of your shampoo bottle.

Creation is much classier than destruction, nice work of art KT.

I've only got a few of those. Including a couple of pieces that came with some motorcycle kit and look exactly like silver elbow macaroni.

Only thing is, I'd be loathe to take it down afterwards ...

I'm actually not planning to. I'm really proud of my design work on this!
