Seen on the road today... - The online computery journal thingy of a turtle

03:03 pm - Seen on the road today...

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

While I was out running errands, I saw a white pickup truck that had one of those see-thru decals that covers the entire rear window, depicting the U.S. flag waving majestically... and down on the bumper, a sticker depicting the Texas flag overlaid with the word SECEDE.

As far as I could tell, the driver was unaware of the clanging irony.

Experience suggests that a large portion of the population is completely unable to perceive irony...

Did you count the number of stars on the US flag? (I've got to the point that I can almost tell by a brief glimpse alone) Perhaps Texas isn't the only one the driver wants to secede.

It was one of those images showing a tightly cropped closeup of a waving flag. You can't see all the stars.

He was obviously intent on Texas seceding, then declaring war on and conquering the rest of the United States, then graciously allowing them to retain their old flag after they join the United States of Texas.

There's more irony for you, either connect or cut, not both in the same state at the same time!

If only our country had instituted some kind of IQ test before letting Texas join the nation... *sigh* Ohwell.

BTW, I apologize for forgetting to take a photo for you while I was at Burning Man. We were a few tents away from 'Turtle Camp' which had a plethora of turtles including some of those plastic kiddie sand-box turtles (these guys: http://img.geocaching.com/track/log/2e7d9c19-843f-4b01-94e5-d9ac086fe15c.jpg ) which had been converted to racing turtles! The had wheels on them and a western-style riding saddle but the rider was sitting about 6 inches off the ground.

Their dome tent was also a giant turtle.

I vote we have them chased out by jackrabbits in formation. You know, a seceding hare line.

Maybe the guy loved the U.S. and hated Texas. "Secede -- we don't want you here!"

Er, Texas isn't landlocked or surrounded by the rest of the country. It borders Mexico and is on the Gulf of Mexico. Sure you weren't thinking of Tennessee or Oklahoma or something? :}

But yeah, talk of secession always comes off as a lot of bluster and hot air. (We're on the Gulf of Mexico! We don't *need* more hot air!)

I dunno about power stations.

I saw a "Freedom isn't free" sticker the other day and mused that someone, somewhere in the country probably has both that and some anti-tax sticker side by side on their vehicle. At this point it's just a matter of finding it and having a camera handy when I do.

Ohhh, but that's not ironic, you see, because "freedom isn't free" means we sometimes have to fight other countries to keep our freedoms intact! Even if it means launching a war of aggression against a country that has no connection with the country the terrorists actually came from! That's got nothing to do with dirty stinkin' liberal taxes! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go drive on the freeway to the police station for the Medicare or the public school or whatever...

Irony?

(Link)
Heck, taint no irony. Texas seeds the best trees in all thirty nine states of this hear country. When you go to that place where you get trees, you SECEDES.
