There's some good anime out there :)

I definitely recommend that you try watching Kiki and Laputa, since they're great and you own them. (Howl's not as good, IMHO.) There's a pretty good chance you'd enjoy Paprika, too.

The Adventures of Mark Twain (1986) is curious with that "creepy" scene as I recognized it right off upon seeing it. It's from the first version/draft of Mysterious Stranger rather than the more commonly known second version (which was published, with the last page or so from the third) or the third version (with the Stranger given a numeric name, 44) which was only published relatively recently. Without context the scene is quite strange. In context it still is, but has some explanation -- the creator/animating character is an Angel (named Satan, for his uncle who had some trouble...) who simply doesn't know Good from Evil (didn't eat any fruit from some tree...) and so Just Does Things without any consideration of anything beyond his own and his friends' amusement even if horrifies those friends. Twain toned things done quite a bit in the second and third drafts, but he was still bitterly cynical about religion and it still showed - just not quite so sharply.

You made pretty good decisions about what not to see. :)

Of the ones on your list that you haven't seen, I'd most recommend Grave of the Fireflies and Pom Poko. Tokyo Godfathers might appeal to you as well.

The majority of films I've seen that you haven't are on the Studio Ghibli list. Overall, you top me for viewings.

But what's with all the films you apparently own but haven't seen yet?

A movie comes out on DVD, I say "ooo, gotta have that," I buy it, but then I get lazy about watching it.

I guess people were adding them but were too lazy to look up dates, and then I in turn was too lazy to look up dates of stuff I wasn't interested in.

What they left off two pieces of Richard Williams work, The Adventures of Raggedy Ann & Andy and </i>Charge of the Light Brigade</i> along with the furry staple film Felidae ? Tsk tsk!

Though of all films on there the one to really see is:

[ ] Arabian Knight (aka The Thief and the Cobbler) (1995)

Online search for the "recobbled edition" of this film. The animation quality of the Richard Williams work is literally the best hand animation ever done and almost the entire movie was done by him. Sadly there is a lot of bad history with the film, theft by Disney, studios buying and sinking the project, etc. Thankfully there were enough hardcore animation fans who got together and tried to bring forth the project as close as possible to its original form.
