So I got up, checked out, let the clerk know about the annoying squeaky heater fan that drove me to stuff cheap rough toilet paper in my ears because I didn't want to lose my high-frequency hearing but didn't have any earplugs. Then I stopped at Wal-Mart (hey, it was the first store I found) to stock up on shampoo and body wash (they didn't have Lever 2000, phoo!) and earplugs, just in case.

In Las Cruces, I stopped for gas here:

In Arizona, I stopped at a rest stop to look at the Dragoon Mountains. I took these photos:

You can explore them further using Google Street View.

As the sun set, I had dinner at a Del Taco in Casa Grande (good, but the burrito was a little too spicy and the sound system was playing covers of classic oldies. Whoever was singing "Barbara Ann" by the Beach Boys sucked!) Then I reached the Motel 6 here in Tempe (a town in the Phoenix Metropolitan area) and checked in. As I started the car to drive through the parking lot and find my room, I noticed the "MAINT REQ'D" light was flashing. Guess I'm definitely going to need to take her for service in San Jose. Unfortunately I'm not sure they got my appointment, because after I filled out the online form, the internet manager emailed me to ask me if I wanted to make an appointment with service or sales. I responded, telling him I'd be going on a road trip and would need service, and he told me, "Your email went to the sales department." My email? I just filled out your online form, guys. You telling me you can't run your own website properly?

You took a pic quick of the Pic Quik (not to be confused with QuikTrip, I guess)!

Unfortunately I'm not sure they got my appointment,

The heck? The page linked in that entry even tells you it's for a service appointment. Apparently it tells the dealership something else entirely. :o(

So, what did you think of the Phoenicians? I think they invented the first alphabet.

There's a giant stone turtle in each of the last two pictures.

"El Paso" is one of those names that sounds a lot nicer if you don't think about its dull meaning.

Like "Baton Rouge".

Or, for that matter, a lot of Indian names. There's a few of them here -- Issaquah, Squak Mountain, etc. -- that all derive from the same root word, which happens to be the natives' interpretation of the sound made by waterfowl.

At least "Red Bat" doesn't sound like it could apply to just about any place, like "The Pass."

I just realized where Sega got the idea to have a bat named Rouge. It seems so obvious now.
