Where's the hotel?? Oh, there it is.
Weird. I just typed the address of Midwest Furfest's new location into Google Maps, then used Street View to have a look at the new hotel.

Here's what I saw.

Street View shows the Westin, but the main view shows the little yellow guy looking out over a lightly wooded vacant lot. I guess one of these two sets of imagery is old and out of date.

Weird, I'm thinking they have the wrong address for the hotel on the big map? Looks like it's in a residential area next to a golf course. I guess we'll find out in November!

Nope, if it were the wrong place, Street View wouldn't show the hotel either. The satellite imagery on Google Maps can go years without being updated. If you zoom in on Houston, you can still see Astroworld, even though the whole park was dismantled years ago, and the property is now nothing but a huge vacant field running wild with grass and weeds. Basically the opposite situation of the MFF hotel.

Wow. I wonder if the hotel is still in a residential area, there might not be many places to shop or eat at within walking distance.

Checking out the promo video for the new hotel, it's two years old, and they are promoting it as having lots of options nearby, ranging from classy places in the hotel to Red Robin nearby.

Wait, golf course? What? That's way over on the other side of Lake Cook Rd. The hotel is at the intersection of N. Milwaukee Avenue and N. Wolf Rd. (How appropriate!) And there appears to be a sizeable shopping center there, just across Milwaukee from the hotel.

Yep. The hotel is really pretty new. I'd guess that the satellite images have to be at least a couple of years old.

Unrelated, but you can see a trail running north to south through the forest preserve along the river just east of the hotel. Okay, probably not a lot of people are going to bring their bikes with them or be up for a lot of outdoorsy stuff in mid-November, but it's one of my favorite trails in the area and I wanted to mention it. :)

Ooooo... I miss nature, I may go walking around there even if it is November.

If you're headed southbound on the road next November, there will be a sign saying "MIDWEST FURFEST LEFT" so all the dumb furries will think the con has gone away, leaving the smart furries free reign about the hotel.

Y'think it'll work?

They deliberately picked a hotel at the end of Wolf Rd, I'm sure of it. :)
