    Scroll wheel in Winamp
Ooo! In Winamp, the scroll wheel controls the volume. That's easier than trying to drag that tiny little slider.

    Current Mood: tired

    Taking a stand
Y'know what? I've decided to take a stand in favor of people who sit in cafes and work on laptops. Well, more specifically I'm taking a stand against people who complain about those people. More specifically I'm taking a stand against people who complain about those people for the wrong reasons.

You've probably seen comments in people's blogs or whatever, along the lines of "Hey you with the laptop, you're in Starbucks, so stop pretending it's your office!" As if there were something inherently wrong with using a laptop in a Starbucks. I'm guessing it's residual "yuppie scum" resentment. But come on, be honest about it. If you hate that guy with the laptop because he's wearing an expensive suit and an even more expensive haircut and looks like he works for some huge soul-destroying conglomerate that crushes the working class under its giant oppressive boot, fine, but don't pretend it's anything else.

I mean, I like to sit in cafes and draw cartoons. If I drew my cartoons on a laptop instead of in a sketchbook, I'd hate to think someone would demand I stop "playing office".

    Current Mood: thinky

    AM-byu-LANCE
Right now, Dad is watching "How It's Made" on the Discovery Channel. They're showing how ambulances are made, but the narrator is pronouncing the second 'a' the same way as the first one (like in the word "lance") instead of as a schwa, like "ambu-l'nce". Is this a Canadian pronunciation?
